A friend died suddenly yesterday and everything feels a but surreal.

The surviving partner is my best friend. They had been together since their teens. I can't imagine what it must feel like to be with someone everyday for the best part of 40 years and the next minute they are gone.

I realise I'm not fit for human consumption with this grief and shock hanging over us. I'm just hanging around waiting to drive or make calls or whatever can be done in terms of practicalities.

I'm distracted by the neighbours with the new paddling pool. He's in up to his ears in it with cans of Fosters and Tango circling around his head.

I have catastrophic thoughts that they might have incidentally created an oversized inflatable water feeding station for my cat, who is out on the prowl. I have visions of her climbing onto the sides and clenching those claws to get better purchase, as she drinks. And the whole lot collapsing in on itself on the lawn.

The same thing happened to a friend of mine.  They were together 48 years

^ Sad to hear stories like that even if I don't know people personally.

Its really sad.

It looks like I might be moving back to my old area of London  for a few weeks to live temporarily to settle her in.

It happened when they were were staying with a relative so she hasn't gone home yet.

It will be weird me and the dog living in North London for a while.

Thanks LFL and Wut.

I'm feeling breathless. I just did the wheelie bin 100 metre sprint.

Forgot to put the bin out last night and heard the lorry turn the corner. Just got there in time.

Sorry to hear that, Betty. It sounds really sad and must have been a huge shock if it was so sudden.

Thanks Trifle. Shocked but not surprised, if you know what I mean.

Shocked because physically and psychologically I'm shaken up but not surprised because it was someone who lived a hugely rock and roll life style that was unsustainable and had a heart attack too young - which was entirely predictable. Still, we live in a world where Shane McGowan has outlived Kirsty McCall by decades so you always think they'll maybe scrape by somehow and defy the odds. Its someone I'd known for nearly 30 years and our earliest times together were like something out of Withnail and I, without the paranoia and with a lot more fun. RIP Jay.

Sleep deprived. Annoyed with waking up too early for two days in a row.

That's an old article, C&M.

Lots has happened since then on that case.

I know this because I've had to block some obsessive former work colleague on Facebook who shares in the region of 16 Charlie Gard updates per day.

I've got nothing but compassion for the parties involved but nothing to contribute that requires that level of information.

Edit : whoops - did C & M's Charlie Gard post disappear or have I posted in the wrong thread?
