I had the idea to make a fried cabbage dish with vegan bacon. I imagined advert-worthy pieces of crispy vegan bacon nesting in perfectly spiced cabbage. But I hadn't drained the water from the cabbage properly, so it was all soggy and tasted of failure, and now I am left with purple cabbage water marks in random places. I feel resentful.
Heavy stuff, Kess. I hope you're able to do some good self-care now you're home. *hugs*
That my dad has just told me he has cancer, and I don't know what to do with this information. That my friend just died of the same and I am racked with guilt that I lost touch with him in his last year of life. That visiting my mum leaves me feeling emotionally dirty, tired and in despair. Her physical and mental degeneration is awful to witness, but her increasingly right wing politics and stubbornness about possible solutions for her situation makes having any sort of constructive conversation impossible. That I am so glad to be home.
Oh, fried cabbage is quite good! General recipe: sauté some onion and garlic in olive oil, add lots of shredded cabbage to pan, some spices (salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes). Optional: Middle Class brie.
