xsbaggage,
are you in some part of London paying that mortgage? That seems very low.
If this is too much of a personal question 1. pm me or 2. ignore me

Why do you think council accomodation is better than a mortgage?  I have heard people say that you are throwing money down the drain by renting and if you buy a home its yours at the end.

What other people have said : not my problem when something breaks, plus there's no point, plus it's cheaper. I think most of the negatives of renting (insecurity, extortionate cost, 'money down the drain', crap landlords) apply far more to the private rented sector than they do to council / HA properties.

But like I say, other people won't all agree, which is fine. We all have different priorities and that's okay.

Obviously it's not always cheaper. I was unable to afford to rent, my mortgage now is £230 p/m to rent a place of the same size would be around £700. But, yes the stress of fixing things and the continual worry of what might happen to the place or to me is a nightmare.

Yes, to clarify - I meant renting a council property is cheaper than buying a comparable home. My mum's mortgage on a 2-bed house is also significantly cheaper than the private rent on 2-bed flats I'm looking at, in the same area. :)

maybe you can find another studio. I would never mind a studio in a glorious city like London.

Oh hello Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins.
