Birth announcement
« on: Mar 18, 2007, 07:48:40 PM »
Our long-awaited baby arrived on Friday 9th March at 20h07; a beautiful boy called Toby Alexander, weighing 8lb2oz. He's totally gorgeous, and Karen & I simply can't imagine life without him, even though it's only been a matter of days.

The birth didn't quite go according to plan (which was for a natural, non-interventionist birth). It ended up being 44hrs from 1st contraction to delivery via C-section (natural labour at home for 22hrs, then to hospital, and because my body wouldn't go into established, regular contractions on its own we ended up having firstly artifical rupture of membranes, then later an epidural, and Syntocin drip to make me contract regularly and get to fully dilated, prior to the hospital deciding that he was never going to come out vaginally anyway as his head had turned sideways  ::)). It all sounds like a bit of an ordeal, but it wasn't really as hard as it might sound (although 44hrs was pretty knackering and the epidural/C-section combo are proving hard to recover from).

But it was all definitely worth it, and Toby is proving to be a very good baby. Breastfeeding has its challenges, but we're getting there, and he's sleeping pretty well. And we couldn't be happier  ;D

Good name, Toby. It was second on my list in case the scan was wrong and I had a boy. Chosen after Toby in Labyrinth.

That's absolutely wonderful news though. Congratulations  :D
