Peri/menopausal weight gain and loss? Anyone? Once upon a time I only had to lay off refined sugar and cut down on cheese and I'd drop half a stone within weeks. Now, at 50, and having stopped smoking, it's taking a bit of effort to become leaner. It's tedious.

I've been researching this and it seems that 50 is the start of the metabolic slow-down. As oestrogen levels fall women store fat around the middle and it takes more effort to burn that fat. Daily calorie requirements drop by about 200 over the peri/menopausal years.

I had no idea that things change this early. My cycle is still pretty regular but my body's obviously changing. And yes, it's a pain. I like quick results with minimum effort.

Some went in their 40s like me.  I am glad i dont have periods anymore.  They were not bad but i didnt like them.  Someine i know is 52 and still having periods and they dont seem to be decreasing so she wants a baby.   She has a son of 30.

I find if i put on its harder to shed.  My friend who is 45 and dieting through slimming world lost 4 pounds last week  :o

Your adrenals can't overcome any deficiencies as easily when you get into your 50's either
I had a rough start into my 50's when things started to grind to a halt- I was catching everything and more aches and exhaustion and skin problems I never had in my teens
It was a hard lesson in self care
So I found an excellent high potency multi for older women and added dong quai(I like better than wild yam or black cohosh) calcium and B's lutein and iron
Regular and proper meals which I was never good at grabbing whatever on the road healthy snacks and sleep-*real* sleep

I am definitely peri-menopausal: one period in the last 7 months and before that I had a mirena coil so I haven't seen my real cycle in 6 years (and the coil was because of bleeding too often and too much for my liking, though the doctor said then it was not menopause related).

And since my joyful post 2 months ago I haven't lost any more weight at all. I have also been less good at the exercise and maximum number of 'eating moments' per day though. I haven't given up though.

I have been in 'peri' for at least 4 years i think now. I have periods every bloody month. But they are very heavy now. Never used to be. Been a size 12 for years. Now bulging 14!!!
I hate it.

Personal preference and build really. Technically anything above about 8 stones is considered fine for that height. I've been pretty much that weight, give or take five pounds, most of my life at just over 5 ft 5, and am certainly not too thin at that.

31 lbs?  That's nigh on 2 and a half stone.  Good going.  :)

I've lost 10lbs in two and a bit months.  Slowly but surely...

Sorry as you know it should have read 3 pounds.   If I lost two and a half stone I would probably be dead or very ill.

Good on you chewy for your loss  :)
