there's been an uptick in open prejudice since the election-no surprise

Even in this liberal enclave there's now assholes driving around with confederate flags on their trucks and there's been graffiti and hate mail
yesterday I drove to a shop with my dog-not my local-in the next village one I've been going to for decades-and when I came back out and opened the car door where my dog was sitting sweetly and quietly an asshole in a truck next to us yelled out who was my ugly girlfriend

Until then it it's just been the occasional stare or glare

Those assholes you mention were given voice with election. How awful to experience that.  :(

I have just captured in a glass what I think is a false widow spider and chucked it out of the kitchen window.  :-X

There are two more in corners that I cannot reach as they move whenever I go near them. Must get some peppermint oil soon.

I just let my spiders get on with it. Granted I can’t see them, but even when I do know they’re there they don’t bother me.  The girlfriend hates them though, I go mad at her because she kills them. How would she like it if it was her, spidering merrily away one day and some callous sod clobbers her with a newspaper and smears her guts all up the wall?

Anyway I’m randomly disclosing the fact that I’m drinking this last glass of lovely red wine from the other night, just in case it should go off or stale or something.

It doesnt bother me about killing insects.  I use fly spray for wasps and flies and if i do see a spider i kill it.  What about rats and other pests.  If you call out the pest control people they use rat killer or traps

Yeah but rats and other pests can spread disease, and they can also do a lot of damage.

I wouldn't usually mind the odd spider as long as it's not big or hairy and I literally would not harm a fly unlike my mother who thinks nothing of killing any tiny creature that she sees. A false widow spider however can bite and leave a person with a very nasty wound/infection. So, unfortunately, the one in my kitchen will have to go. I am hoping that when I get some peppermint oil and add it to water and spray it around, the spider will decide to crawl out of the nearest window. Luckily, it has stayed where it is for a few weeks so it hasn't bothered me too much.

Why do humans learn something and are so self important as if that is something new when it has been known for generations and repeated through history?!!

^ we have a tendency to feel like we've really learned something when we have personally experienced the learning, I think.

Also, we seem to attach more or less value to information depending on the source. It used to really wind me up when my kids came home from school telling me something 'new' that I had tried to tell them years earlier. However, there is also the fact that if the gap between existing and new knowledge is too great, it's hard to bridge the gap so the new stuff doesn't really sink in/become part of our own knowledge.

But I have a feeling you are referring to something big, what is it?
