Gosh, I've always thought it was just as it is with straight men being uncomfortable around gay men - they assume that the gays are completely undiscriminating and will fancy them and make a move on them, so the straights have to be on their guard the whole time, just in case.

^ That. Some of them are horrified by the possibility of a woman fancying them. Funnily enough those are often the ones who don't understand why you might be uncomfortable with a man fancying you, and think you should take it as a compliment/'flattering'. Not encountered this loads though tbh.
