^ that's funny, I think they look so so pretty! I prefer the white ones, but I only buy them if I am on holiday where they get to ripen properly.

Now since I'm here I suppose I have to own up to how little fruit I have in the house:

1 apple, several tangerines that are getting a bit shrivelled, several oranges 'for juicing' and several 'for eating'. Not sure which are which, I didn't buy them. I bought the small box of strawberries in the fridge which I am using at a rate of 2 or 3 a day on my breakfast (on the days I eat breakfast, so they are lasting a while...). I also have some raisins in the cupboard, and possibly something tinned.

Does jam count for my fruit intake? I have jam.

Apples and bananas.

We're really exotic in this house  ;)

Oh, if we are including jam, then I also have raspberries.  :)

I am going to buy a blender or smoothie maker as it is such a chore to eat fruit. There is always something better to eat but I would consume more if I could just drink it instead of eating it.

I rarely have fruit in the house but when I do it is either banana or melon or strawberries.    I cannot stand grapes or blackberries or raspberries or kiwi fruit or blueberries.   I do sometimes buy a fruit salad from the supermarket.  I have given up with oranges as they are always sour.  I bought an orange yesterday and it was vile.  One mouthful and it was so sour I spat it out and put the rest of the orange in the bin.   As far as I am concerned oranges are a complete and utter waste of money

I love almost all fruit. It pisses me off that crap food is cheap and fruit is (comparatively) expensive. I try to have mostly seasonal fruit around to avoid air miles but I do sometimes succumb to the allure of a nice pineapple.
Every day is a bad hair day.

C&m, have you had your tastebuds tested for hyperhydrolacticacetylacidosis? Most tastebuds with this condition respond well to a short course of Xylephonium.   Hurrah, oranges might be back on the menu?

I have bananas to put on toast with peanut butter. Bananas are very cheap here - about 11 cents each. I think some of the less fashionable fruit and vegetables - the ones that aren't the flavour of the month - can be bought quite cheaply. I'm thinking cabbage, turnip greens, pears, apples, bananas.

That's good advice! After I had a short course of Xylephonium I could eat citrus fruits again, including lemons and limes.

I am glad it helped. Did you need a prescription for it, or did you get the over-the-counter strength? A recipe is not a recipe without a bit of citrus.

Had to get a private prescription. Not available on the NHS :(. Just glad to be back to eating tangerines again.

I've just bought two passion fruits because they were reduced to 14p from ú1.10 and I've not eaten them before. But I don't know what a ripe passion fruit should look like. Any clues?

I would assume by the time it gets to 14p...it's ripe?
