^ my best ever bargains have been for that reason too. Either in TkMaxx or in charity shops: bought as a present and never worn, I reckoned in the latter case. And in TK Maxx on the shelf too long so red label, because the right sized people didn't find the item where they were looking.

Heh, yes. Incorrectly labelled clothes for the win!

2nd hand ski boots for €20  :D

My last ones had kind of melted inside - they were a previous bargain made of some posh hi-tech mould-to-your-foot material. I got them out of hibernation the other day o go to an indoor ski slope and they smeared rubbery sticky stuff all over my socks, yuk!

So now I've replaced them. May be a year before I get to use them but as long as these don't disintegrate under my bed then they were a bargain.

I did my first hike in regular socks back a few years in the Vall du Nuria and got serious blisters, I do serious hikes, 800km at a time, I need good socks.

Also, I'm posh, extravagant and I like gear.

Need.

Oh I see. I don't do long ones like you.
Regarding gear it took me ages to find nice looking, supportive and robust  shoes!

I used to be ok in regular good trainers like asics - however my feet seem to have changed over the last couple of years and I need special insoles as an over pronator.

Where do you hike?

Here in England, countryside. Different locations. It can be very muddy at times and wouldn't work in trainers.  Are you hiking worldwide?
