Far North trip June/ July 2015 buddies wanted
« on: Dec 24, 2014, 09:04:37 PM »
I'm looking for travel buddies who would like to come along on a trip to the fringes of the arctic and northern Scandinavia next summer. I'm planning a trip to Svalbard/ Spitsbergen for a few days and then about a week in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden and possibly Finland.

I usually stay in youth hostels (very clean, civil and comfortable in Scandinavia) or little log cabins on camping sites or my tent depending on the weather and circumstances.

The trip will be a little bit adventurous ( there are polar bears on Svalbard ) but I'm not planning for any extreme trips, just some nice day hikes, looking out for beautiful spots and wildlife (arctic foxes, seals, possibly walrus and whales, moose and lynx) and enjoying the midnight sun.

At the moment the cheapest flight from London Gatwick to Svalbard cost about 120 single way (cheaper then I thought). Return flights from other Scandinavian airports like Tromso, Lulea should be a good bit less.

Any takers?  :D

Thank you, Peca. It would be nice indeed to have some company and share the beauty of the North.  :)

People on their own go on coach trip holidays.  That way you travel with people.  They can be pretty costly though if you are on a limited budget.

My hiking group forums are the next step but I  try all my social networks including GB 😊

i would go but i can't leave England until 13th July due to the Tennis/Football and i know sportygal wants to be there on midsummers day  8)

i looked at this trip yesterday via a few specialist websites as a group organised excursion and it is very expensive to do it that way!

I travelled in Norway thrice alone, met people along the way.

I just don't know if I will have the required amount of money and it if will be ok for my new employers (I'm looking for a different job) to take X days off after only a few months of work.

Ingen fara, Lodjur. ;)

I'm really tempted. How much experience with camping and hiking is needed?

A little bit of camping experience would preferable at least knowing how to put up a tent and how to make sure that rain and mosquitoes don't come in first thing. ;D Hiking-wise I don't want to be exhausted every evening but 12 to 15 miles on a few walks would be my aim.

Just adding my useless two penn'orth since I can only ever go anywhere during school holidays - but that sounds fabulous, S-G and I hope you get a couple of travelling companions - good luck  :D

What a great holiday.

I would definitely have been interested, but have already got something planned for end of June.

But I could be very tempted to copy your idea for 2016; what a fantastic way to celebrate the longest days.
