Little things that make the day better
« on: Feb 17, 2014, 09:13:38 PM »
I was watching a TED talk earlier - the name of the speaker is Neil Pasricha; a few years ago he started a blog called 1000 Awesome Things about life's little pleasures. I think it's a nice idea - the simple things get overlooked too much!

Anyhoo, I thought it might be nice to start a thread of 'awesome' things :)

Being asked if I need help reaching something from the top shelf in the supermarket. Usually people ignore me struggling until I actually ask them for help, but not today! :)

The receptionist at my GP practise noticing that I have dyed my hair and complimenting me on it. All the while using my chosen name, not my legal name which is what was written on the repeat prescription form I had just handed her. She's only met me a few times, over the last seven months.

I like this thread  :)

Walking past a local coffee shop just now; their little sign outside read: "decaf is the devils plaything"

Made me smile anyway! :D

;D

Meeting a responsible, kind and generally very nice young man in the park this morning with the dog he rescued three weeks ago.

The dog is 9 months old and was previously being used as a guard dog in a minicab office getting no exercise, no socialisation, no real care at all. When his new owner met him he was about to be put down because he wasn't a fierce enough guard dog.

Now he is in really good hands and seems a happy and lovely dog. He is already progressing fast with socialisation and training and his good nature is blatantly obvious. Ruby dog responded enthusiastically to both the human and the dog and the whole encounter left me with a warm glow. There really are some very nice people out there.

That is a lovely story, onmyway - I hope man and dog have many happy years together.  :)

The guy today who jumped around like a nutter in order to stop the number 3 from leaving without me.

Just in general when somebody notices I could do with a hand and offers to help, even if I'm ok. I'd rather be humble when I don't need help than not recieve any when I do.

The Overground train driver who had already started to pull out of the station but spotted me and the kids hurtling down the stairs and stopped the train again so we could get on :D

Your favourite song playing on your earphones so you can close your eyes and listen, and forget (for a moment) you're on a packed train :)

One of my best friends calling me to share good news, and sounding so very happy, and telling me that he loves me.

I have so been rooting for him to get that job, the news has really lifted me.

20 years as a social worker, and in the last 3 years mismanagement have been making him really ill with stress as well as unable to do his job properly. Now he will be a university lecturer, which I just know he will be brilliant at. I expect there will be some stresses but they will be different ones, and there is simply no way it can be as bad as his has been for him in social services recently.

^ hope his new job goes well :)

My little thing is the luxury of staying in bed on a weekday morning, listening to the radio and reading :)
