Bristol possibility

Hey All

I'm checking out a few possibilities for moving and people have convinced me to check out Bristol to see Friendly Factor, Lez Factor and Alternative Art/Music/Culture Factor.

Also the relative availability of woodland and water, and quietude.

I think I might swing through for a long weekend 7, 8, & 9th of September.

1) any words of wisdom or suggestions for the long weekend?
2) any friendly Lezzo bars (not clubs with ear pounding music and no quieter spaces to talk)
3) any suggested areas that are inexpensive to rent and relatively close to getting into the hills?
4) anyone feel like meeting up for a tea/coffee/pint and a natter?

Many thanks to any kind of information provided  :)

I will meet up with you HB, if you want. But can only do evening of the Saturday or Sunday.

I'm feeling a new found love of this city, care of Henleaze Lake. I may have to be here until I die now.... It is also close to at least 3 other swimming places that are brilliant.

I've no idea what is on that weekend and not much of a clue re lesbian bars, but in terms of cheapish places to rent and get to countryside - Bedminster is ideal, I think.

Yes, real swimming! It's 110m long, or there abouts (well, the bit that you can swim, the lake is far longer but mainly used by anglers in terms of most of its size). You can only ogle on the internet though (http://www.henleazeswimmingclub.org/) as you wont be allowed in. You have to be a member. I can take guests, but only on weekdays. You will either have to replan your visit or come back another time if you want to go there...  :)
