50 shades of chav .... 'Council estate style' ...

. "Even though he only had one tattoo I yearned for him to fill those lonely hours between Jeremy Kyle and Loose Women". "As he approached with those pasty white arms hanging out of his nike vest, his smile told me it was benefit day and I knew my velour tracksuit would be hanging off the lamp shade tonight.""As I stood in line at the Job Centre thinking of reasons I couldn't work, a sweet smell drifted past my pig like nostrils. It was a mixture of weed, B.O and Lynx Africa. I turned around and there was Dwayne. Our eyes met and he was soon lifting me onto the wheelie bins behind Iceland. He had tied up his Staffy to the block in the ally way so we wouldn't be disturbed. There was a tramp watching but it just added to the mystery. I knew it was love and my life would never be the same... ;D

I just read a synopsis of this book yesterday and now I feel so depressed.  I thought it was about some power woman, couldn't be more wrong.  I keep telling myself it's just fantasy, but why are women turned on by this complete wanker of a rapist who can't take no for an answer?  Is it secret lesbian fantasies they are all having?  Do they want to be him?  Or is it the modern western woman's secret yearning for at least negotiated control over her own sexual subjugation?  Are things that bad?  50 shades of WTF is this all about please gingerbeer?

some women have force fantasies so they can have someone do everything they dreamed of getting done to them with no sense of guilt, no responsibility and the idea of someone desiring them that much. It has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with real rape.

Makes sense to me, HB, except the last bit.  I think it is everything to do with real rape; with the longing to slow it down, own it, control it, reverse it.  It's just sad that grown women do not understand this and instead think this stupid character is their ideal man  ???

I don't think power exchange is anything to do with rape. Well, it's certainly not for me.

as someone who enjoys being on the receiving end of force fantasy and as someone who has been raped, I find the comparison between the two to utterly belittle my experience of rape. they aren't even remotely in the same universe and I find it insulting to have the two put into the same bag.

You describe the man as a rapist, ask are the readers (gazillons of women) are secret lesbians, and then if these secret lesbians want to be the 'rapist'.

By my reading of that you may be associating lesbianism with the rape fantasy on a mega scale?

 ???

Or something.

OK UP but I'm assuming this is in a queer context not straight heterosexual?  Also I think every one of our sexuality is formed in at least awareness of the prevalence of rape, if not direct experience?

OoO I just find women wanting to play rape with other women empowering, whereas male on female rape fantasy in the context of society today not.  No doubt I am being hideously offensive, as ever.  I'll go crawl back under my rock, pardon me.

But I will say HB I can tick both those boxes too, ya know.

Rape involves an absence of consent. Whatever your fantasy is, however distasteful someone else finds it, consent and negotiation make it not rape.

I've got to say it's comfortable for me in a queer context in ways it wouldn't have been in a hetero context because of the gender politics. But that's my personal response. I think if someone enjoys power play in a straight context and there's clear consent, then it's not rape. What would be your opinion of a hetero switch couple who liked to take turns doing the topping?

Cuticle, my straight women friends are entitled to the same fantasies I do. Just because I find it disgusting doesn't mean they do - because they want that same play as I do, but because they are *straight* they happen to want it with a man. it does not mean they are uneducated an not politically aware. they are feminists and very well aware. Straight does not equal ignorant of political issues of sex.

if you play with force fantasy and you've been raped then you obviously know the difference. you problem seems to be that you are gay and thus know better than someone who would want it with a different sexuality than you.

and yes this does pee me off a bit because of the questions around this they get shoved at them if they should ever admit it, and god forbid they admit it in front of a dyke, the amount of verbal abuse I've seen them get and shame they've had to overcome from their own political background does ire me.

Ha!

Actually I would broadly agree!

I just thought there may have been a connection made between lesbians wanting to rape, as you described the man as a rapist. But I get you now. I'm fairly sure.
