Pride Bristol 14 July 2012
« on: Dec 17, 2011, 01:14:31 PM »
I can't find the date...help appreciated!

Bristol tied for second place in our 'Which Pride' survey so in addition to Brighton and Manchester we're going to Bristol.

We've had one offer of local assistance so it would be great to have lots of input into Gingerbeer at Bristol Pride.

I have made enquiries and will get back when I hear. They may not have set the date yet.

Apparently there is no date yet as there are funding problems, but they hope there will be. I think. I had quite a long response, but didn't understand a lot of it.

Thanks for checking...perhaps we'll have to have our own pride!

Anyway, my date preferences would be weekends of 14/15 or 21/22 July or 11/12 or 18/19 August, fingers crossed!

Well, I'll be entirely honest. I had a very speedy reply back from the person who organised Pride for the past two years. Before then we hadn't had a proper Pride in Bristol for years. But I didn't really understand the reply properly - it was full of phrases that I imagine come from the world of finance about which I am very ignorant, so 'funding problems' is probably an oversimplification.

What did the last two prides consist of?  Were there marches and parties, or picnics, stages, community stuff?

Funding issues are unfortunately a big issue for pride events...

A week of events and entertainments, and a day involving a march to a park in the centre of town where there are tents and things with tables and stuff, and stages and shows, like a mini festival, and then parties at night. I've never been to a pride anywhere else, so I don't know how it compares to other places.

I think the main funding issues are that the organizers gave up paid work to organise, but then they don't get paid, so they can't afford to keep doing that.

Brilliant, thanks for monitoring UP.  Now...will I have recovered from London Pride which is the week before?

They're probably going to be clustered this year because no one wants to clash with the Olympic thingummy.
