Me and Mrs G have just come back from a night away in Brighton. As ever, we loved it. :-)
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message. ;D

A Brighton Board!

I'm new on here (will find a suitable picture soon) and fairly new in Brighton. Let's get the ball rolling.

Complete the sentence:

The  best place thing about living in Brighton is...

Mm.

Also:  the cafe culture, North Laine, the Duke of York's Picturehouse, being able to walk everywhere, proximity to the Downs, vegan gluten-free pizza that delivers (I don't even love it that much; I just love that it exists,) having a Green MP, the Fringe Festival, and the amount of different festivals/markets/exhibitions/fayres - often free - that run throughout the year. Mostly I think just the choice of things within a relatively small space.

The  best place thing about living in Brighton is...

...that it's compact and you can practically walk everywhere.
...breakfast at Bill's, before it gets busy.
...running in Preston Park.
...walking along the seafront when it's so windy that you can lean into the wind without falling over.
...shopping in the Lanes. (Particularly Badger.)
...Sunday lunch in Seven Dials Restaurant.
...Dim Sum Saturday lunch at China Gardens.
...Frockabilly.
...that you can dress how you like and nobody even gives you a second look.

I moved here 15 years ago with my ex-girlfriend. We only meant to stay for a couple of weeks and then move on to London (and then Paris) but I got stuck.
I've never felt at home anywhere as much as here. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
I'd sell you to satan for one corn chip.

It's lovely to hear so many nice things about Brighton. I have to say I agree. Though the seagulls seem to have it in for me and I think it'll be a while before I know my way around the lanes.

I've moved down to work and study. Trying to fit the play part in there somewhere. I see that there seems to be lots of meet ups in London on here, but not so much in Brighton. Are there any regular things on that you'd recommend to a newbie?

hm. i went to a drag king night recently at the malborough which i'd go to again (they were talking about the idea of doing one monthly.) and an lbt meditation day at the buddhist centre, which was good. there's also lgbt book groups at each of the libraries in the area.

can recommend general brighton stuff and hangouts, e.g. there's a vintage/retro clothes swap at the blind tiger on sunday, and can recommend other hangouts if that's useful? but queer-specific i'm not great on, because i'm really not particularly sceney. maybe others can help?

oh and there are performance pieces on @ the basement in north laine this fri eve to do with gender.

(p.s. i've lived here three years and still get lost in the south lanes.  :P)

I don't think there are any Brighton based GB meets, if you mean that. (But then I may be wrong.)

I hardly ever go out on the scene (almost never), so I won't even try to recommend anything.

Well, except Frockabilly.
DJ Lonesome from Frockabilly is also starting a new night (HoneyHush) this Saturday.

Thanks for the tips. I guess I'm not that sceney either, but it's always good to keep your options open, especially in a new city. If there are any GB meets I would like to go to one, if not maybe we should wait until we have a few more numbers and then see about arranging a meet up.

I went to the Marlborough once and that was pretty cool. Will check out frockabilly when I get the chance.

I've been meaning to go to the buddhist centre for a while. How did you find it Bizoute?

The promenade is a good one.

Spent the weekend showing friends around the lanes.  Don't want to count all my chickens just yet, but I think I may have worked them out.

OK, let's keep this board rolling. First time you fell in love in Brighton?

Mine was last week. Very short-lived, but worth the experience...
