Give Our Youth a Future

Saturday 12th November, assembling in Windrush Square (outside the Ritzy) @ 1:30pm

Children's services in Lambeth have already faced £12 million cuts in 2010/2011 (over 500 jobs in all went in Lambeth due to the cuts) and they are now facing a second round of cuts, up to £13 million. The previous rounds of cuts led to the closing of children's playgrounds, cutbacks for One O'Clock clubs and the redundancies of several child services staff... Lambeth is a borough of high unemployment and one in four social housing properties in the borough are classified as unfit for habitation... Furthermore, the area has gang activity and was hit by the riots in the summer. Both show a need for more youth services and better living conditions and activities for younger people.

Lambeth council is currently sitting on £30 million reserves and the demonstration is to demand that it uses some of its money to help keep youth and children's services open...
