Confusion as a pleasure/indulgence
« on: Aug 01, 2011, 06:17:54 PM »
I sometimes wonder whether I'm attracted to this endless ID defining because of its confusion rather than in spite of it. Complexity is a great way to ward off boredom. If I was busy trying to run away from tigers, I doubt I'd even think about it. Since there are no tigers chasing me, I have the luxury of being able to think about it.  I'm not trying to diminish it - the same would be true of any aspect of culture, eg Shakespeare, golf, philosophy, making the best possible pastry etc.

What's the relationship between pure interest in genderyness in an abstract sense and gender as it's manifested in your self?

I'm putting down a new floor in my bathroom. I mention this not because I think it's in anyway pertinent to this thread or of interest to anyone else but in an attempt to derail it for my own amusement. Of course, I could have IMed Blythe to tell her but manners like that seem to have gone out of fashion.

Hmm. I don't really enjoy these ID definitions but I can't resist them. On the other hand, I am attracted to confusion or, at least, the disruption of expectations. I like being confusing. I'm drawn to people who confuse me.

I'm very impressed by your tales of DIY, Top.  I like doing DIY, and am not completely rubbish at the stuff I have attempted, but I am inexperienced.  I get a mild frisson at your exploits.

What's the relationship between pure interest in genderyness in an abstract sense and gender as it's manifested in your self?

One is defining and I need to emotionally resonate with it, the other is theoretical and I want to intellectually understand it.

I am fascinated by confusion, but I'm not sure I find it pleasurable.

That's a shame, I was hoping that it was only of interest to me.

Ah yes. I'm a very quiet girl. ;D

Never mind leering, I'm currently pulling up a cement render with my fingers and a wallpaper scraper, if you want to come and help, you'd be very welcome.

lightning moment of realisation - you're Top(p)s Tiles, all by yourself aren't you? Your whole epic DIY thing, it's far too extensive to be a one off domestic endeavour, isn't it?

That's nearly true. Photos of my most recent work are on FB.  ;)
